The first time Shakespeare introduces Romeo is in Act 1 Scene 1 by a conversation between him and his cousin Benvolio which is also his friend. It started with Romeo’s parents talk to Benvolio and ask him to find out why Romeo has been avoiding people’s company at that point. And Romeo was saying that he fall in love with someone who does not love him which is Rosaline . Romeo was full of sadness at the beginning, he was keep saying what is love and how much he likes Rosaline, and he can not stop thinking about her. He asked Benvolio “O, teach me how should I forget to think.” which means to teach him how to stop thinking about all the sadness things. And Benvolio tell him is by examining other beauties. My first impression of Romeo as a person is that he is a “man” whose feelings of love aren't reciprocated by the lady he admires and who uses the poetic language of sonnets to express his emotions about his situation. But I still think that he is a young man who is more in love with the concept of being in love than with the woman herself (make me feel like to much fancy words for a boy). And apparently Romeo’s personality changed during the whole play, which is from a young boy to a mature boy who still has some impulsions.
For Juliet, I think she is just like Romeo, changed from an innocent teenager to responsible adult during the course of the play. Juliet first comes out at Act 1 Scene 3 by a conversation between Lady Capulet, Nurse and herself about marriage. Juliet’s mom asked her how does she think about marriage and how does she think about marrying Paris. And asked her to prepare for the dance party in the evening to look paris over because Paris is good looking and handsome. But Juliet said that “I’ll look to like, if looking liking move; But no more deep will I endart mine eye Than your consent gives strength to machete fly.” which means that Juliet said she will look over Paris, if she does not like him then nothing will happened. I think she just said it to comfort her mom. Which also shows that the relationship between Juliet and her parents is not close at all. So, in Juliet's case, however, there is a heightened sense that she has been forced to be mature too quickly by her family.
Compare two main characters, I personally like Juliet more than Romeo. Because I think Juliet is a brave girl who can fight for her true love without any fear. And I feel like there is somehow a connection between me and Juliet, first of all we are both teenager girls, second of all our parents will force us to do something, and last but not the least, I like her because I really want to fight back sometimes like she does but not in the way of suicide. Romeo and Juliet both are extreme people which is not very good. But, there are still some good things we can learn from both Romeo and Juliet.
