The first character I chose is Romeo, the reason why I choose him is because he is the main male character of the whole play, we cannot left him. The object I chose for Romeo is a letter (Paper). Because, I think the paper is a main line through out the whole play, everything is passing on by a paper work. Romeo can use the paper through the whole play in the way of writing the different thing on the paper and erasing it of multiple times. The bad side of it is that Romeo can not kill Tybalt with a piece of paper. And if I am casting my classmate, I would cast Cassidy to be Romeo, because she is very good at acting, and she has a load stage voice which is a very good point. And she had act as Romeo once, I think she did a good job last time. So, I kind of want to see she act Romeo through the whole play.
The second character I chose is Juliet, the reason why I choose her is because she is the main female character of the whole play, as important as Romeo, so we must have these two characters. The object I chose for Juliet is Kaleidoscope. Because, Juliet is so beautiful just as Kaleidoscope, but she is a character that changes a lot at same time, and they are the kind of changes that are mostly done by others. Same thing about kaleidoscope, people have to move it around in order to change it. And also the kaleidoscope will turn into black at one point, at that point is where can represent that Juliet is not the innocent and pure girl as she used to. In the play, she could use it with explaining by script, to show how beautiful the kaleidoscope is and when does it turns to completely black. Additionally, I would cast Grace to play Juliet, because she is also good at expressing herself and she is good at acting, we can tell from she played Juliet for the scene that Juliet went to find Friar Lawrence. I think she will show the changes between this character well.
The third character I chose is Mercutio, the reason why I choose him is because everything kind of start to look awful after he died. The object I chose for Mercutio is an ironic comic book or something that has dark humor in it. Because, I think that Mercutio is always show that he is really interesting and always laugh, made others happy, even when he is dying. But, right before he died he turns to a kind of dark side, he is blaming two houses, he is no longer the Mercutio who has a lot of humorous to show others. On the stage, he can tell the joke from the book but also tell the dark side or the back meaning of the joke or story. I would like David C to play Mercutio, because he is kind of like Mercutio who is the one always makes everyone to laugh or something.
The fourth character I chose is Tybalt, the reason why I choose him is because he is the one who killed Mercutio and the one who really want Romeo to died, also he is the one who actually start to make everything looked bad. The object I chose for Tybalt is a sword. Because, as everyone in our class agree that Tybalt is a fighter, in each of the fight scenes we have in the play, they all have Tybalt as apart in it. So, sword is the best object for him. It is kind of easy to explain how Tybalt is going to use sword in the play, basically, he uses it to fight others and to show his "power" in the play. In addition, I would cast Yun to be Tybalt, because we had seen his acting as an angry man (monologue for "Fences"), so I think he can be a good "fighter".
The fifth character I chose is the Nurse, the reason why I choose her is because that she is the only one who Juliet can tell all the thing to, she is the only one who knows everything between Romeo and Juliet in the 2/3 of the play who is also on Juliet side (inside the Capulet). The object I choose for her is a towel. Although it is an easy product, I think it can represents a lot of Nurse characteristics in the play. The towel can represent her job in the Capulet which is to clean up everything and to take care of the family, especially Juliet. It can also represent that for most of the time Nurse is the one who always clean up the mass for Juliet and cover Juliet from her mom. She can use it naturally for everything, such as clean the table, etc. Additionally, when she is cleaning mass for Juliet or talking with Juliet to solve her problems, she can use the towel to touch Juliet or wipe away the dirt on Juliet or anything else.
The sixth character I chose is Friar Lawrence, the reason why I choose him is because his relationship to Romeo is just like Nurse, so I think he is as important as Nurse as, even more. Also, because he is the one who gave marriage to Romeo and Juliet, and all the thing happened after. The object I chose for Friar Lawrence is Herb. Because he is the one who give the poison to Juliet, which represent that he likes to deal with herbs, in order to get medicine or poison or anything else. Also, he likes planting. He can hold it for the beginning of his scene to show that he likes planting. And he can probably to cut the herbs to show that he is doing research of the herbs.
The seventh character I chose is Prince, the reason why I choose him is because he is the one who really stand in the middle, who is not anyone in any of the families, also the one who always decide the big deals for everyone. The object I chose for him is Scepter. The scepter can show his power perfectly, this object itself is a perfect thing for the royal. He can use it basically overtime he wants to. For example, when he decided to banished Romeo he can use the scepter to point at the sky or the Montagues.
The eighth character I chose is Lady Capulet, the reason why I choose her is because she is the one who always tell Juliet what to do, although is all her husband's (Lord Capulet's) idea, she is the one who delivered all the messages. The object I chose for her is a play dough. Because, play dough does not have anything specific shapes, so it is controlled by people, it has to be the shape that people want it to be. Just like Lady Capulet controlled Juliet, Juliet has to be the one what Lady Capulet wants her to be. Juliet is like the Play dough. The Lady Capulet can just play the dough in hand on stage while she is talking or moving around or doing anything else. To make the dough into different shapes each time when she talks to Juliet.
The ninth character I chose is Paris, the reason why I choose him is because he is the start point of the wrong marriage. If he does not want to marry Juliet everything will be fine probably. The object I choose for him is a credit card, which can represent perfectly for Paris this character. The richest young man in the play. He can solve everything by using his card. On stage, he can always has his card out, in order to show his wealthiness.
The tenth character I chose is Benvolio, the reason why I choose him is because he is the one who always goes to Romeo whatever is the Montagues force him to do so, or he wants to do so. We can always see him reaching out to Romeo, and he actually tries to help. Also, I think he is the real peace maker in the play. So, the object I chose for him is a white dove. Dove represent peace, so it is easy to understand why I chose dove for Benvolio. He can uses it on stage by letting the dove standing on his arm or shoulder to show he is the peace maker. And every time when there is a fight scene if Benvolio is the one who urging them to stop, he can show the dove to everyone who is fighting.
The second character I chose is Juliet, the reason why I choose her is because she is the main female character of the whole play, as important as Romeo, so we must have these two characters.
