TGM Scene Proposal

I am in the group with David D and David C; we are going to focus on the arguments between Amanda and her children. First, we chose Act I scene 3 which is focused on the fight between Tom and Amanda. We found out that, in this way, Laura would not have an equal amount of lines, so we added the part when Amanda founds out that Laura did not go to the college. The reason why we choose the former Act I scene 3 is because, first of all, it is a scene that is important even for the whole play, this is where Tom breaks Laura's glass menagerie. Also, this is the scene that Tom got mad and "escape" from the house, mostly, "escape" from Amanda's reprimands, which is also the foreshadowing of Tom leaves and "escapes" the home at the end of the play.  The reason for why we chose the second scene is because this is the part which only focuses on the conversation between Laura and Amanda. Also, this is the place where Laura tells Amanda about her shyness and Amanda tell her what to do. I am going to play Amanda for both scenes. The reason why I chose Amanda as my character is that at first, I thought Amanda is an easy character to act even though she has quite a lot lines. As we all know Amanda's emotion is quite simple, which is trying to be annoying and picky about everything, and just blaming or saying that everything is not good. But, at the same time, the challenging part for this character I found out is exactly same as the easy part I thought it would be at the first time. Since we had watched the film version of the play, and I research for couple more videos on Amanda's acting skills, I found out that it is difficult for me to be troublesome for a long time. And the fundamental problem is to remember the lines. These challenges are also the reason why I chose Amanda as my character, to challenge myself, and to improving the acting skills. The literary analysis I hope to explore is that What kind of hard situation had this family been under and what lead the family to the end that we had read? Is this all about the father who only had a picture at home? Also, talking about Amanda, does she care about her children? Or the only thing she cares is to have a better life?
