Blog Post

We have been doing this project for over three weeks I believe, and I learned a lot from it. As my last blog post said, I received a lot of feedback for our first draft from classmates and Ms. Guarino. The major issues are lines, memorizations, and staging. We've been working on these problems for the whole time after the first draft, which leads us to the final draft. So, we memorized the final script we have and changed the staging and blocking part. We also remembered to fan out to the audience and to show our facial expressions which is important as an acting skill.
Since we were in class early trying to run quickly through our scene, which led us to the first one who performed and be filmed. To be honest, we were not really ready at that time, but since we were already there, we just went first and tried to get the pressure out.
Looked through the outcome of our final draft, couple strengths that our group have is that: We have good props used on stage, such as the old style printer/typer, the old style phone. We have couple blocking and characters walking around which is not fancy, but I think it is enough for a short project. We used stage voice appropriately, and the build-up of emotion was good.
I think our group has more weaknesses than strengths. As we all know, we are the only group who did twice, because of the memorization, this is a huge mistake on stage. We should carry it on if it is a real show or something, we will have no chance to start all over again. The other weakness is that our body languages were kind of awkward and looked really "fake." Which means that we did not really think ourselves as that character, we were just acting.
Individually, the strengths that myself have is that I have a right tone of voice, including voice control and voice changing. Also, I think my build-up of emotion is kind of good. I think some of my facial expressions are satisfactory, especially when I was arguing with "Tom," I was annoyed and mad at him, so my voice was loud and filled with anger.
Talking about weaknesses, I do have a lot. Most importantly, when we were filming the first time, I forgot a line, which made our group have to start over again, I feel so sorry about that. Secondly, is the movements and body languages part, I think I should have more body languages instead of just standing there and shifting around. Also, I forgot one movement that I have to grab "Tom" around the end, instead "Tom" gave his arm to me and then I grabbed him. This movement should be more natural.
Overall, this project was a really good experience for getting to know about real IB programs that we are going to have next year. And I feel like, no matter how did I do in the final draft, my acting skill and techniques had improved a lot. For example, now I have an idea of how to build up a stage and set up the props, how to show the environment of the scene by the settings. Also, I improved the skill of analyzing characters and how do I be the character which is a skill that I probably have to practice through life. This was an interesting project, I learnd a lot from it.
