Edwidge Danticat

She is a Haitian-American writer. She mainly focus on writing novels and short stories. She burned on January 19th, 1969. Her parents immigrated to New York when her and her brother was young, so they are raised by their aunt and uncle back in Haiti. Soon after, she move to New York at age 12. She first started to write when she was 9, at that time, she was still in Haiti. She went to Barnard College in New York, she was going to be a nurse. However, she likes writing a lot, she recieved a BA in French Literature. In 1993, she received a Master of Fine Art in creative writing in Brown University.  She uses the thesis "My turn in the fire- an abridged novel" as the basis of her first novel "Breath, Eyes, Memory" which is first published in 1994. There are three main themes about her work, all of her works are mainly focusing on: National identity, Mother-Daughter relationships, and diasporic politics.
