IA Proposal

I will do my final adaptation project on the story "Nineteen Thirty-Seven", this story has a lot of contrasts on its own, and there are more conflicts than other stories. The personalities and characteristics of the characters in this story are all really identical and obvious, in my opinion, they are easy to understand, show, and act out the emotions on the stage. There should be 2 actors, one will be the mother and the other one will be Josephine. As I said before, I will mainly focus on the contrast of mom's different behavior when Josephine is there with her and after Josephine leave. Because, I think this will show the main theme of the whole story, which is relationship between mother and daughter. Also, this will be a good scene to show that Josephine does not know her mother that much which can lead to the misunderstanding between mother and daughter. Because of mother's kindly hiding and keeping secret from Josephine which also build up to the point where Josephine can actually understand her mother after she knows the whole story and that mother did everything to protect her. I will set the scene in the prison, so in the terms of the book said, my story will start with mom already got into the prison, and already got tortured by the soldiers. What I want to highlight in my performance is the facial expression and the feeling when mom is pretending strong, and saying that everything is fine, and the soldiers treated her well when she is actually dying. For Josephine's case, I would like to highlight that from the point that Josephine saw and realize that her mother is pretending strong, her facial expression should be touched, but trying to hold back all the emotions, in order to let her mom worry lesser than she usually does. The hardest part in my performance would be the deliver of facial expressions and emotions, because there are a lot of parts that is like, you know there should be a strong emotion delivered, however what I what is that actors should hold back the strong emotion and show the audiences that they are holding back the emotions and let the audiences still be able to tell there is a strong emotion goes on.
This should be a performance that shows the love between mother and daughter, and shows that mothers are strong enough to support and protect their own child from danger in their own way. And also the daughter started to understand her mother eventually, and feel touched by what her mom did and feel sorry for what her mom had ho under through.
