Chapter 6&7

After the storm, everything is new. Peasants work with renewed vigor, clearing dead branches from their plots and rebuilding homes. While everyone is working, Desiree only wants to leave the village to find Daniel, the one that she loves. When she asks Tonton Julian about the road to Monsieur Beauxhomme's home,  Tonton Julian tells her that it is a long way. So, she goes to find Monsieur. Bienconnu, the one who has lived 100 years to see time chase time over and over again. Then, Monsieur. Bienconnu tells her about the origin of the family of Beauxhomme. They are the colonizers from the French. Even though the Monsieur. Bienconnu tells her that she cannot get the love from Daniel ("History has cast our fate in stone"), she still wants to find Daniel. When she got back to home and told Tonton Julian about this, Tonton Julian realized that their little girl starts to have the feelings of love and she had grown so much and they are going to lose her. Mama Euralie came back and strongly disagreed with Desiree's leaving. And Mama Euralie says they should ask gods about how to solve this problem. Mama Euralie brings Desiree to talk with gods. She grabs Desiree tightly so that she does not lose her (she is very afraid to lose her child). During the process, Desiree first sees her parents, her parents are really happy that she is still alive. Then the goddess Erzulie (love) comes. She is the one who supports what Desiree want. Then, the god Agwe came, he is mad at Goddess Euralie because she disrupts his plan. From the gods' conversation, they know that Agwe takes away the life of Desiree's parents. Not only that, but he also wants to punish all the people since they are greedy. He does not think that peasants and riches can truly love each other. When Agwe says that he shall destroy all of the people, Papa Ge appears. He claims that he is the god of death and his vows are given in trust and shall be kept in trust. Then, Agwe shouts and leaves the body. Then, Papa Ge gazes at Desiree, she is very scared. She screams and snatches her hand away from Mama Euralie, and runs away.
