Emily Dickinson's Poem Notes

I’m Nobody! Who are you?
Are you – Nobody – too?
Then there’s a pair of us!
Don’t tell! they’d advertise – you know!

How dreary – to be – Somebody!
How public – like a Frog –
To tell one’s name – the livelong June –
To an admiring Bog!
Emily Dickinson's poems have really weird punctuation which includes with many dashes everywhere in between the poem. She has weird capital letter in between the lines. As people know, she has Agoraphobia. This poem shows her fear towards public, but also shows her lonliness inside. She wants to have friends and wants to find people that is like her, but she is afraid of the outside world and the public. She use Frog to describe public or those Somebodies, to say that they always say their names to everyone. And she describe the Public as Dreary. The parallel form of two lines shows that comparison.
