In-class writing 4/2/19
a) how would you costume Desiree to show both member of peasants and different/outsider/special/dreamer?
I would put Desiree in a smaller size of a dress for kids in the beginning and also put some make up on her, like dirt and maybe make her look darker because she has been working for the whole day and she will be barefoot for the whole first couple chapters, because at the end of chapter 2 there is a whole paragraph description of that her dress doesn't fit her and it ripped and she was laying on the beach and letting the water wash her body. And after this scene, I will put Desiree into a white dress, in order to show her purity and remove her "dirty" makeup and maybe put some pink blush on her, to show kind of reborn and also to show her passion towards everything and curiosity towards the outside world.
b) costume--- connections with other characters: Gods? Rich? Mama E? Explain.
When she is wearing the white dress, it can somehow show that Mama E made the dress for her, or Mama E really likes the dress, in order to show kind of connection there. And then when Mama E feels like she is going to lose Desiree or Mama E is afraid that she is going to lose Desiree, I can somehow and a scene that Desiree ripped the dress or got it dirty, so that kind of break the connection with Mama E. Also, ripped of the concept of her pure personality, because she fell in love with Daniel, but Daniel's dad does not really like him, so the dirty get on Desiree's dress could also be a sign or foreshadowing that she will get to the rich's or outside world which is not as clean as the village.
